Art 4 Semester 1
One Word Project
Self Portrait
Rope Drawing
Vertebral Column Realistic
Vertebral Column Abstract
Paper Pulp "Change" Project
Prior to Art 4, I have taken other years of art as well. Before I took art, I painted and drew a lot on my own, and learned a lot from my grandma. She is a very good artist, so I had somewhat of a lot of experience before taking the class.
I learned a few different things this semester. We spent a long time working on the vertebral column. I learned how to make it look more realistic than I previously could. I learned how to observe the skeleton and copy the shapes and shadows. It took me a long time to complete both the abstract and realistic drawing, mainly because I changed how I was going to do the realistic drawing because I didn’t like how it was turning out.
Next, I learned about paper making, and how to make/use paper pulp. You shred up the paper, add water, blend it all up (with a dinosaur of a blender), and add some glue. This was a fun project to do. I didn’t know what to make for a while, but then the idea came to me to make an ice cream cone when I was hungry. I was planning on making it look like it was melting in order to show change, but I didn’t get that far and just made a normal ice cream.
I’ve improved a lot during this semester. With the self portrait project, I learned how to make my drawings more realistic. I like the way it turned out. I did a really good job on the shading and I think I’ve improved on portraits since art 1. Also, I improved with realistic aspect of my drawings, especially with the skeleton. I made the rib cage about 10 different times before I came out with my realistic piece. After I finished this, I did the abstract piece. It was very hard to do this piece, because I had to look at a skeleton as well as a picture of a gymnast doing a back walkover. I had to sort of guess on what the bones would look like the positions they were in. I think it turned out great.
Overall, I think my favorite project was either the skeleton ones, or the ice cream cone made of paper pulp. I love the way the skeletons turned out and I’m really proud of my work. I loved using the different shades of ink to make my drawings pop. Also, I had a really fun time making the ice cream cone. It was weird to make the cone over a little flower pot, but it turned out cool looking. The only thing I would change about the ice cream cone is that I would add more detail with the painting to make it look more realistic.

Semester 2
Pop Art Print
Cardboard Relief Print
Clay
I am sad to be done with art class. I took art for 3 years and have been in art 3/4 for the last two years. It was my favorite class to come to and I learned a lot. I mostly learned how to make my drawings/paintings more realistic. I learned about clay, and how to make coils and slabs. I learned about Ink and made really cool looking skeleton ink drawings. I made different types of relief prints and used the printing press and the bayer to put the paint on the print. I learned how to put designs on shirts, and pretty much make anything I want. My favorite part of art class was not only getting a lot better in art, but also learning that I want to continue art type of stuff in my future, and deciding to study interior design in college. Also, I really enjoyed becoming better friends with the people I had art 3/4 with for two years!
